I think that people should be able to come to the United States legally. As long as they don't cause any trouble it should be find. People in those foreign countries go through so much and live a poor life. So people decide to come over here to get an education, live a better life and have some frredom.
Then, when they do finally get here they realize its not what they thought.

I think that the book is good and that people that come here go through lots of bad things, to work for there family but thet should all do it legally.

Manny, interesting thoughts, but how does one go about immigrating legally? If you are making choices to help your family, do you worry about legality, or do you worry about results?
people do struggle a lot in life to get somewhere or to make things better in life.... in this book the way enriques mother left was not a right way to leave... eventhough she thought it was the best for her and her family, now she aint even staying in contact with her kids... she promises and promises to come back home but all she is doing is hurting her kids all the time beacuse all of her lies... my opinion is that '' dont you think that after 11 years she can probably had become a citizen in the US and probably come back to see kids....
after her living years passed and enrique always thought positive that his mother would come back, lourdes re-did her family and got together with some guy that is a painter... she should have thought about her kids and came back...she shouldve done somthing else of found another way into bringing her kids to the US....but instead she left them behind and just hurt them more... now enrique is in drung and hes trying to enter the US to find his mother....its wrong of enriques mother of doing this
Enrique's mom had no means of coming into the U.S. legally because if she could she would most deff. have done this. If she stayed home her kids could have died of starvation because there is no jobs around. You Never know where life is going to lead you and in my opinion Enriques mom made the right decision. Also in order to become a U.S. if you are from South America it takes atleast 10 years and even if you came in legally it takes atleast 5 speaking from experience. Decisions can be hard but a mothers love never dies no matter the deistance that is why she works so many jobs to raise her kids not becase she enjoys woking crappy jobs and never being able to see her kids.

I feel that enrique's mother did do the right thing when going to the u.s. She went because she loved her children, and she couldnt afford to take care of them where she was. She wanted more money to give her children so they could live a better life then what she lived. Even though going to the U.S. hurt her children, she was doing it for them. I understand why enrique wanted so badly to get to the U.S. But if I was enrique i would not want to risk my life to go there. I would not want to be sad all the time and just accept the fact that my mother left. I also feel that it was wrong of his mother to keep promises to her children she was not going to keep.
