As I continue to read through this book (about more and more of the hardships and triumphs enrique encounters) I thought to myself- 'is this journey the same as it was in the beginning?' What I mean is, Enrique started out wanting to get to his mother, and I don't doubt this is his main objective. However, I wonder, after all the experiences he's had, how PERSONAL this journey has become. Is he moving on out of a sense of personal determination? I know if I'd endured as much as he has, I'd want to make it to the United States, just to prove I could! Of course, I'm sure his mother is the main reason he continues, but I wonder if anyone else would feel like this? I'd also welcome comments on how much one would be willing to risk just to see antoher person?What comes first, you or someone else? Who are we more concerned with? Do we NEED someone so much that we're willing to risk everything?

i think that you are right I also felt that he had to prove to him self that he could make it to the United States. If i was in his same position as he was I would have keept on tring. Going through all them problems he went i would also want to prove to my self that I could do it just to feel good with my self to say that i didnt quit.

.My opinion on this situation is it is not just some random person he wanted to find it's his mother. The one who created him. I would risk anything to be with my mother and very close family member. Like for instance my mother personality and character means alot to me. I am getting ready for prom in I find a dress that had my heart but i wasn't with my mother so I went to take my mother to see the dress. When we got there she didn't like the dress so I started not to like the dress the way I felt about it. Also it was the same exact dress. So to me it depends on the type of relationship you have with that person. You also have think about there condition. Enrique case he didn't have anything to look up to so his determination and focus point was his mother. Also Enrique had alot of family members turning on him and maybe hiis mother had a comfort zone. Sometimes people feel they can't survive without someone else look at Maria Isbel his girlfriend she wanted to follow after Enrique pregnant and everything.

I think that what your saying is true. Enrique started out wanting to come to America, and i guess he has tried so many times that it becomes reliance to come to the United States even though his main motivation is his mother it has now become the fact that he wants this more than anything. Not only to see his mother but also to prove to himself that there is a better life out there.

Yes I agree with you! Its not just any person, its his mother he was risking all that for which proves his love for her and his determination to get where he gotta go. He was struggling so much that being focused on himself wasn't going to get him anywhere. He was more concerned with his mother than himself because he needed her that much to risk so much.

I feel that what you are saying is true. Somewhere along this wild adventure it has became more personal. Eurique has tryed and tryed, and tryed again most people would have given up after getting into fights, bruised everywhere and basically almost losing their life. but for the love of his mother he hasn't. after tring so long he should want to go to the u.s to live a better life ,such as getting a job while still trying to find his mother. I think that Eurique is a very strong person for his determination.

I agree with what the author is trying to say in Enrique's Journey. However I feels though that Enrique had to overcome his struggle in finding his mother.Even though he felt as if he wanted to give up at times he didnt he was determined to reach the United States. Enrique is known to be a strong person who has experienced alot throughout life but, yet has he let anything stop him from accomplishing his goals in the search of his mother.
I would do whatever it would take for me to be with my mother again. Somtimes its worth risking your own life just to be with the one you love again. I think that if i wouldn't atlease try and attempt the trip i would be miserable knowing that it was a chance that i could have made it and been with my loved one. Being with the ones who i love the most contributes alot to my happiness. I'd rather attempt the dangerous trip and risk my life than to just not try at all and be miserable for the rest of my life.
