Response to Family Loyalty
In response to some of the comments about family loyalty, I wanted to bring this up here, and see what you all think, even though this is posted under comments as well: It's interesting how everyone would do the same as Enrique in a similar situation. I for one would not- if my mother was away, I would somehow try to accept that- she made a conscious decision to leave. Though it may be against her will, she acted in a way she thought was best. I'm not saying it would be easy, but I am saying that being loyal CAN mean letting someone go, if that is their decision.

This was a really good book. I give Enrique's Journey two thumb up. When I read this book I experience alot of thing in this book. Enrique's was a very strong person in this book, also he was a very brave boy. Enriuque's mission was to fine his mother in the United States.

Your absolutley correct when you say that "being loyal can mean letting someone go," but it's easier said than done. I can see if the person leaving was a distant relative, but when it comes to someone as close to you as your mother the situation is completley different. A mother is a nurturer, a guidance, a helping hand when you need her. The absence of your mother can hinder you for the rest of your life. The absence of your mother can cause short-term as well as long-term problems. The short-term problems may consist of seperation anxiety or feeling alone. While the long-term problems may cause more serious issues including trusting and loving others. I CAN'T imagine not being able to see my mother because she lives in a dfferent country than me. I am fully aware of the fact that Enrique's mother left him for a great cause, but at the same time can see how Enrique might feel abandonment or feel as if she no longer loves him. I just like Enrique would try with everything I had to be reunited with my mother as soon as possible, under any circumstance. There's no love like the love that a mother and her child share.

In my opinon I think enrique is doing something good hes trying to go to the U.S to see is mother he can get a job when he gets there and have maria and his kids come up. I probley would do the same thing so my family can live better then I ever did so I think hes doing what most people might do just for thier kids.

I think that Enrique's Journey was a great book. I think that it was good that Don Francisco brought Belky to the United States to see her mother. If he haven't done that then i don't think that Lourdes would ever see her daughter Belky again. Belky made a great decision to go back to her son in Honduras. The only thing that i dislike about this book is the ending. It didn't say if Enrique or Maria Isabel went back to Honduras to their daughter Jasmin.

This book shows a boy looking for love. But the only place he think he can find it is in the United States where his mother is located at. Enrique need love so he is determine to find his mother and nothing will get in his way. And that is something i like in him.

I also agree that "being loyal can mean letting somone go,"although it is hard it may be the only resolution to a problem. I think that enrique's mother made a decision hoping to benefit her entire family,she was looking to give her children a better life;also she did not completly abandon her children,she did what she could while being so far away, she called as often as possible and sent the little money she had to her children.Enrique's feelings toward his mothers absence in his life shows in his actions.A mother is one of the most influential figures in a childs life growing up.I think it is alot easier to say i would leave one country to go search for my mother in a place i was unfamilar with.Enrique as well as many people that tried entering the united states illegally know the dangers and know the significant number of people that loose their lives while trying to reach family. I know it would be very hard to sit back and wait for my mother but i think i would wait! It is a very dangerous journey in which many people never make it into the states some are killed or beaten, i think the hardships of a mother not ever being able to she her child again would be alot worse then the wait of eventually being reunited.
